Corn Chowder

Great for autumn, when it starts getting cold.  My kids and I love this one.

2 cans creamed corn

2 cans cream of mushroom soup

1 can diced white potatoes

1 large sliced onion (sauteed til soft)

2 cups half and half

1 cup water

1 cup sliced mushrooms if you like them

Put it all in a pot, mix it all together, and cook over medium heat for 20 minutes or so.  It's easy and so yummy.  I could live on soup in the winter, and this is one of my favorites.

Picky-eaters

Your kids don't get all funny about the colors and textures?  Oh you are SOOOOO lucky!

When mine were little, I could feed them anything.  My oldest was the best!  I had her eating fried polenta with sausage; spinach tortelini with a sherry cheese sauce; lentil soup with ham; escarole and beans.  <stomach growling, mouth drooling....>   Now?  They won't even eat my pizza anymore.  Hub-man says, "Wait.  They'll appreciate your cooking when they get older."

<pout>

Now I'm lucky if I get them to eat linguini with clam sauce!  (The trick is the garlic-bread-crumbs I fry for them...)  Even so, I can't make the homemade clam-sauce I use to make pre-kids with opinions and atitudes.  See, NOW my clam-sauce is too "yucky and yellow", so I have to use the oily stuff from a can.

It does the job, but as one who loves to cook, and more importantly, loves to EAT, things like that bother me.

I grew-up with a mother who thought breakfast was a perfectly good dinner option.

NO.  Cereal for dinner is NOT dinner, MOM.

Things like that haunt me, still.

I make it a policy no child of mine eats anything cold for dinner.  No breakfast items, either.  Even if I try to serve a frittata, (which they don't touch, anyway), that is served as a side-dish.

In many ways, life and cooking was so much easier when I could just lift my shirt and nurse!

...<laugh!>

Rylie is getting pickier

Rylie is getting pickier now, but she's still a really good eater.  Ronin is just a human trash can . . . anything you put out for him, he eats.  He might make faces, but he still eats it.  I'm sure he'll grow out of that.

The pickiest one in the house is Mike.  He's awful.  I blame his mother.
