Pound Pup Legacy

I did't see this one until just now!

You know, one of the hardest things about naming each child was considering how each name was going to be used agaist him/her by others.  I remember hub/man and I would sit for hours taking names we liked, and raking them over the coals, like mean kids on the school bus typically do, imagining what it would be like if one of our kids were given a certain name.  After all, we have not forgotten what it's like to be young and in school.

You know the crazy thing?

Kids are mean and CRUEL!  (And funny, too!)

No matter what, kids think of the damndest things, no matter what sort of thinking takes place within the house.   There's an outside-world that parents CANNOT control, and that's just plain scary!!!

This concerned me in regards to my two boys especlaily.   Why?  After all the time, thought, care and attention we gave into naming those little runts... I was afraid of other kids still managing a way  of finding a way of teasing them about their names.  I hate the idea of bullying, fights and violence.  I'm funny that way.

And... of course... they  (The "other kids") found a way to make-fun of my own kids names.

So... as a parent, it's our job to teach our children how to react to kids who taunt and tease.

Perhaps that's the hardest lesson of all to teach our little-ones... especially when it triggers so many sad memories within our own childhoods.

Face it folks, for some reason, we live in a dog-eat-dog world out there.
