Although my voted answer reads as if I had only one set of parents, the truth is, I don't know how many different faces and arms tended to my needs my first year of life.
I was told I was placed in an orphanage, but learned decades later I was in Canada's Foster Care System. How I was treated, where I was placed and the type of care I was given is speculative, as no records were kept for me to read. It's as if that first year doesn't count or didn't matter to anyone but me.
A year may not sound like a long time.
But then, for a pregnant woman and first-time mom, a year is an entire life-time, isn't it?
