"An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth". (See: Justice) Is this retribution or restitution? In my mind, as one who was taken away from one, then given to another, this biblical phrase from Exodus embodies the essence of Adoption. I believe each action has a reaction, and no where is that seen more than the generational fall-out of free-love. If we reap what we sow, Adoption Advocates better take a good slow look at ALL of the adults who survived social-service's Foster-Care failures and adoption's aftermath.
Of all the items, articles and websites I have seen and read, no site has affected me more than Lori Carangelo's AmFOR.net pages. More specifically, and life-altering is her life's work and free book, Chosen Children (Billion Dollar Babies in America's Foster Care, Adoption & Prison Systems). It's an intensely comprehensive lengthy read, rich in fundamental truth, (making PPL's pages read like an Easy Reader book for beginners), but the information provided is awe-inspiring. If ever there was an example of a mother's labor of love, Lori leads the path on a road less traveled by those seeking more than fame and fortune. Yes, believe it or not, there are Good People doing Great Things, and doing so without the tangibles others spend a life-time seeking and keeping.
Reading Lori's work, and working on my own medical research project made me realize how beautiful life can be if we allow ourselves to feel the pain of another human being. It did not take me long to contact the woman behind the web-page brilliance AmFOR represents, and that simple email grew to a PPL project we call "Message in a Bottle". Will this be an investigative look into the minds of madness, and an unfolding of fraud and deceit... I'm not sure... only the factual remains of The Closed Era of Adoption can tell the truth behind the big-business of baby-selling. Let it be known, adoption as a mission is noble. It's unfortunate many of the money-making ring-leaders are not. Profiting from the mistakes and misery of another doesn't seem that moral to me. In fact, using my own adoption story as a point of reference, I see money and greed are indeed the roots of evil. At what point is the policy and practice of proper parenting going to change? Who's job is it to clean the blood-bath of problems pouring from the decades of corrupt adoption practices? Is adoption really saving the world's children, or is it a new-way to pimp and whore young women's bodies AND their babies? What a sad world we live in if money matters more than natural motherhood.
The legacy of one's life is left by the remains of each piece of work a person produces. Whether the sum-total is good or bad depends of what motivates a person. Yes, I strongly believe what each person does (big or small), the effort matters. Fate or free-will, the bottom line is simple: we are responsible for each action and reaction we make, and our life-story will be seen by the legacy we leave behind.
"Message in a Bottle" is PPL's baby, born from Lori Carangelo's "Chosen Children". Our goal is to continue the mission of mercy only a mom can initiate. I am proud and honored to have Lori in my life as role-model and mentor. She is one of two amazing women I am blessed to have found through the internet circuit. Without these two moms, I would still be stuck in abandoned grief and despair. I find it strange how I lost my natural mom, got taken and thrown by another mother, and still managed to find positive maternal influence through the mothers of complete strangers. God is funny that way: He Gives, He Takes and He Returns in ways we cannot begin to fathom or imagine. Such simplicity proves, you don't have to be with a child to be maternal and a person can't buy happiness... it has to be earned.
