Breaking the rescue mode thinking

Niels's picture

Most of the child placement ideology is based upon a rescue mode of thinking. Children need to be rescued from pregnant teens, children need to be rescued from abusive/negligent families, children need to be rescued from orphanages in third world countries. While reality has much more nuance than that, the public at large lives with the idea that all these children need to be rescued. The media, though I don't necessarily want to accuse them, play into the hands of the child placement industry by paying attention to the most horrible situations. Horror sells, so they media show the most devastating situations in orphanages, report on the most terrible abuse situations, which only strengthens the rescue mode thinking.

What does it take to counter the rescue mode thinking? Does anyone have any thoughts on that?

''Children need to be

''Children need to be rescued from...''

All nasty situations indeed. Can be nasty. Anyway. People wanna help. also.. because that makes them feel good.

As you showed in your other topic, we can even add to the list

''Children with mental handicaps need to be rescued from professional care''

So.. this ''rescue  reflex'' in my view is primitive.. a hoard thing. One protects one's hoard-members.

To eliminate THAT.. go try. The economy jungle helps. Let it all hang out. Don't rescue. Don't intervene in economic crises.. let all participants go down, that gives rise to the strong ones surviving.. this approach is named social darwinism.

When rescue gets lethal

I think saving children from harm is indeed a noble and necessary thing.  Unfortunately, I do not think the adoption industry is nearly as interested in "noble causes" as much as it is interested in "what's profitable".

The economy jungle is much thicker than you think, especially when you consider the economics surrounding child placement practices.

Behold this lovely "rescue tactic" used by doctors and pharmaceutical companies:  Wrongful medication cases

"Survival of the fittest" has new meaning when "the government's children" are being drugged to death.
