The mother charged with abusing her 11-year-old adoptive son is ready to enter a guilty plea -- but a family court judge in Troy won't let her, at least for now.
Sharmon Evans was reportedly in court Monday, possibly ready to enter a plea, when Judge Linda Griffin ordered Evans to get a psychological evaluation first.
Recently, a pre-plea report was completed by probation officials who recommended the evaluation.
Evans' adopted son has claimed she beat and starved him, forced him to eat his own feces, didn't allow him to use the bathroom and made him sleep on the floor without a pillow or blanket.
Evans had been a foster mother until December, when she left the program. Rensselaer County would not say why, but retired county Social Services Commissioner John Beaudoin told CBS 6 that an extensive review found Evans did not mistreat her foster children.
