Many of our posts/discussions relate to the corruption behind CPS, foster care, and adoption, but little attention is given to the subject that has hurt and harmed so many who got poorly placed. Child abuse, (it's long-term side effects and consequences) needs to be discussed openly so those who have suffered through traumatic experiences (like rape, physical aggression, social alienation, and parental disinterest) can learn certain behaviors are very normal for something that should be an abnormal childhood experience.
I know there are far too many people wanting to believe abuse and neglect do not take place in adoptive homes, but the truth of this unstudied fact is real, as more and more cases are being revealed.
In terms of "what happens afterwards", I was reading a blog written by a man who is struggling with his child abuse recovery, and I think there are many here who'd see themselves in his written pieces: "Recovery from child abuse, http://kermitmuppet.wordpress.com/
The posts are short and simple, but I believe they offer a very good look into the life of an adult trying to make peace with his painful past.
[I especially liked his "Skeletons In The Closet" piece because eye-contact and "appearing normal" have always been very difficult issues for myself, as well. His "Have i been abused?" post is excellent, too: http://kermitmuppet.wordpress.com/2008/07/27/have-i-been-abused/ ]
