Planning an escape through travel? [think again!]

I read the most ridiculous question ever posted:

So how do people concerned about human rights make their voices heard? Should you travel to countries that have repressive regimes, even though some of your money would go to prop up the authoritarian government?  [from "Should You Boycott Repressive Countries?" http://travel.msn.com/Guides/article.aspx?cp-documentid=473062&GT1=41000 ]

"Human rights"... like the right to keep what is yours?  Is that right decided by God or Man, because there seems to be a very strange line of limitations and justified excuses when a person starts saying, "Render to Caesar what is Caesar's"

Boy, if I had a coin for everything that was taken from me, I'd still be deemed "worthless".

Like the USA?

I guess if I thought about boycotting travelling to countries based on their human rights, I'd have to think twice about visiting the USA given most states' policies on adoption, particularly access to birth and adoption records which would contravene human rights legislation here in the UK and much of Europe

Between complete agreement and utter confusion

I completely agree: any country that doesn't uphold the highest human rights standards should not be traveled to. That would bring the practice of international adoption to an end too, since none of the sending countries is particularly well known for their human rights. Then again that would mean I could never visit the US anymore, cause that's a sending country too.

Stand-still

I laugh at the notion of not traveling to any place where human-rights are not recognized.  That would mean we'd have to become suspended in space... unless someone knows of a place that's child-friendly and conflict-free.

... is there such a place on planet earth?

maybe...

The North Pole comes to mind, for as long as it still exists, pretty much void of people, though if you'd call that child friendly is another question. Though legend has it the child friendliest man resides there.
