I have often told other parents, "I don't always know WHAT to do as much as I know what NOT to do with my children." I have no doubt that many of my nurturing-ways came from what I learned in Nursing School. The rest comes from what and how I would have liked to be treated by my parents.
I wonder just how many new-parents ARE prepared for the changing needs a baby brings with their helpless selves. I wonder how many actually GET the help they need, and how this ultimately reflects itself in "bad" versus untrained parenting. I truly believe anyone who doesn't think parents need instructional help and support never had to take care of a baby for any significant length of time.
