Successful Surgery for 8-Limbed Indian Girl Revered By Some in Her Village as the Reincarnation of a Hindu Goddess

Washington, D.C.: Did the parents wait until Lakshmi was 2 years old before the surgery? Why wasn't it done earlier/before? Will she need psychological counseling?

Dr. Sharan Patil: They did consult somebody regarding surgery while she was young. But were discouraged saying high mortality rate. She will definetely need psychological counselling & prolonged physical therapy.

It took doctors in southern India 24-hours to complete the surgical reconstruction on a 2-year old girl born with four arms and four legs that  will hopefully give her a chance at a normal life.

Gee, starting life-off as "the parasitic twin", that sure doesn't sound as swell as "the test-tube baby", but I'm sure no child will ever be scarred by a term made (in)famous by the press, right?

I would need therapy if I was lied to about my twin

Modern-medicine can indeed perform miracles, and parents who stay by their children and help them heal and recover from such surgeries will do well together.

It's those children who are separated at birth, and lied to about their lives and circumstances that don't stand a chance having normal coping skills later on!
